How to make a success of your new manufacturing role

You have just landed your dream manufacturing role and want to make sure you really excel in it, but how do you ensure success? In most jobs, you will be on probation for the first few months, so you need to make sure you are at your very best during this time, but this needs to be maintained to ensure true success. It is important to have a plan in place prior to commencing your new role and to keep you on track throughout. These are some tips to help you become successful in your new role.



Be personable

Half the battle in being successful in a job is to be likeable to your colleagues and members of staff you need to liaise with as part of your role. It may seem obvious, especially to those who are well into their career, but it is important to mention. You may be the type of person who just wants to get in, do their job and leave, without speaking to anyone, but this could really affect your level of success. People will go the extra mile for those they like and who make them feel good; so being personable is important.


Stay punctual

Most of us make a resolution to have excellent attendance and time keeping when we start a new job and that often slips as we become more settled and comfortable. If you want to thrive in your new role, it is important to ensure your attendance and time keeping remain at a high standard.



Keep focused

When you work in a laid back environment, it can be tempting not to have a quick look at Facebook every half an hour or WhatsApp your friends every few minutes. However, we all know that these few minutes can easily turn into hours and this is hours of lost productivity. It will probably be noticed in one way or another, even if no one says anything at the time. A good plan is to keep your phone off or in your bag and only check it during your breaks. When you do this, you will stay focused on your work, you will be productive and this will help you achieve success in your new role.


Understand the business

Although you will have your own individual role within the organisation, it is important to gain an understanding of the rest of the business and where you fit within it. When you know how the business actually operates and the key functions within it, you will have a better chance of exceling within your role. It is also important to know what expectations your manager has of you and what you need to achieve to be successful in the role.


Key contacts

The stronger your relationships are at work, the more likely you are to progress in your role. It is a good idea to make contacts with key individuals within the business; those who are in a position to be able to help you progress.
