Employee Benefits – The Most Popular Benefits Packages

As it is a candidate’s market at the moment, employers need to be prepared to offer an attractive benefits package, in order to encourage talented staff to join the business. Employers should be prepared to offer a competitive salary, but also provide some other benefits in addition to this. Many companies only offer good benefits to staff at a certain level but it is important to remember that those employees at a lower level will potentially move into management roles in the future. These are some of the most common benefits packages currently being offered.

 

Pension

Most businesses will offer some kind of pension and with the introduction of auto-enrolment, it is becoming more of a necessity for employers to offer a pension to their staff. It is not simply about providing a pension though, many businesses are offering better employer contributions and allowing employees to vary their contributions as they wish.

 

Private Medical Insurance

Historically, private medical insurance was only offered for employees in senior positions in the business, but an increasing number of employers are including this as an option for all employees, rather than just a select number.

 

 

Flexible Working

It is becoming increasingly popular for companies to offer some degree of flexible working as part of their benefits package. This can be very appealing for employees, especially those who have other commitments, such as a young family or are enrolled in a college course. Some examples of flexible working include the option to work from home or flexi-time.

 

 

Bonuses

Bonuses are often part of the benefits package and can be a great incentive for attracting talented people into your organisation. This is particularly the case for senior roles and candidates will often ask whether a bonus is being offered and this can sway their decision on whether or not to join. Bonuses not only attract talent but they can also be a good way to motivate staff to achieve organisational goals.

 

Childcare Vouchers

With working parents making up a third of the workplace these days, childcare vouchers are a part of the majority of benefits schemes being offered by businesses.  These can help save money for employees, so acts as a good incentive and is an aspect which will often be queried by people before they decide whether to join.

 

Cycle to Work Scheme

The cycle to work scheme has been in place for some time now and it was introduced to encourage employees to cycle to work, rather than driving or using public transport. Employees can benefit from tax free bicycles as part of the scheme and it also promotes health and wellness. The cycle to work scheme is offered by most companies as part of their benefits package and it can be a good incentive for people to join.
